Steve Jobs: Legacy Of A Tech Guru

Steve Jobs will go down in history as one of the greatest CEOs and technological innovators of our generation, but how did he shape his legacy and what moves did he make to start Apple from the ground up? His ideas, forward thinking and technological breakthroughs changed the way we look at the world. However, Jobs did so much more than just iTunes, the iPod and the iPhone. He also had the vision to see potential in animation company Pixar.

Apple

Steve Jobs as well as his two partners, Steve Wozniak and Mike Markkula, started with barely anything. In order to raise funds, Wozniak sold his prized calculator for US$250 and Steve Jobs sold his Volkswagen bus for $1,500. From there, more investors came on the scene. There were differences in opinion, and eventually Steve Jobs left to start his own company called NeXT Computers after being forced out of the company.

Although they wouldn’t admit it, Apple quickly figured out that they needed Steve Jobs. In a interestingly timed acquisition, Apple purchased Jobs’ company NeXT computers, bringing Jobs back to the company where he would later become CEO working for $1 per year in compensation.

Girls vs. Boys: The Great Money Divide

STEVE: “Are girls different from boys?” I asked Levi the other night.

He slowly turned toward me from his Facebook screen, arching his eyebrows and flashing a smirk that said: Wow, Dad is even more clueless than I thought. “About money,” I quickly added. “How are teenage girls different from boys about money?”

“Oh,” he mumbled, less cocky now. He thought for a minute: “I don’t know.” Truth is, neither of us does, which is why we’ve avoided the topic in this column. We’re a family with three boys; what do we know about girls?

Boy issues seem simple to me. Girls seem, well, complicated.

Rich Dad Advisors Discuss On The Coming 2012 Depression

Rich Dad “Robert Kiyosaki” and his entire adviser team discuss how they have prepared for the coming depression:
    - Year’s supply of food
    - Guns
    - Gold & silver
    - Cash on hand

They speak of the coming depression (inflationary or not it’s going to happen), shutting down the credit card system, and higher taxes no matter what. Budget-cutting police forces promotes lawnessness.

What scares me now is these are not some local yocals on youtube speaking their wacky thoughts. Instead, these are calm, straight speaking, successful businessesmen in the know, telling us what they have done. We should take notice. They are prepared.

5 Ways You Could Be Sabotaging Your Retirement

Retirement isn’t impossible for most of us, but we often get so wrapped up in navigating our busy schedule that we unknowingly sabotage our own retirement. Look into these five specific areas of your plan to see if you are doing harm to your goal of a comfortable retirement

Not negotiating better pay during the hiring process. In this economy, it’s easy to be grateful for even having a job. But you are definitely short changing yourself if you don’t negotiate for higher pay once an employer presents a job offer. A higher starting salary sets you up for bigger paychecks down the line because most raises are calculated as a percentage of your current pay. The worst an employer can say is no. And unless you are very rude in your negotiations, it’s highly unlikely that an employer will take their original offer back because you asked if there is any room for improvement.

Working less than 35 years. You could be drastically cutting your Social Security checks without even knowing it if you decide to retire early. Your Social Security checks will be based on your 35 highest annual salaries. If you work less than 35 years, you get a zero averaged in for each year that you didn’t work. And it’s usually a good idea to work even more than 35 years to cancel out unfortunate years that you didn’t work much due to layoffs or your lower salary at the beginning of your career.

    Fall Home Renovation

    home renovation

After summer holidays are over and the heat and humidity subsides, it’s a good time to start home renovation and preparation projects before the cold weather sets in. Flower beds can be cut down, lawns fertilized for the last time and windows washed. Here are five projects that are perfect for cool fall days.

    Winterize the Deck

Decks get a lot of use during long summer days. By the time fall comes around, they can look worn out and old. Once the deck is cleaned off and all summer chairs and tables are stored away, power-wash the deck with a high-velocity pressure washer. This will dislodge any dirt that is stuck in the wood grain and will take away the gray color that decks fade to over time. Fall is also a good time to reseal the deck if you use a sealant or stain. Choose a warm day that has no chance of rain and start the process in the morning so that the deck has several hours of drying time before nightfall.
